Ostereier für den Norden

NDR | Wie geht das? | 1  ×  28 min | 17.04.2019

Easter - the holiday of resurrection, colourful eggs and chocolate rabbits. For most people it is a cosy get-together in the family circle. For three companies from Lower Saxony it is the most important and stressful time of the year. "Colouring, snacking, watering" - Wie geht das? looks behind the scenery of our traditions and puts the spectators several surprises into the nest.

Our breakfast egg is from Lower Saxony - every third egg in Germany comes from here. In 2017, the North German country produced almost five billion eggs, about half of them from barn husbandry. And the Lower Saxons are also German champions in "Easter egg colouring": The Waden company near Cloppenburg has already made several million eggs suitable for Easter. We eat around 200 million chocolate bunnies at Easter, the choice on the supermarket shelf is endless. The Confiserie Weibler from Cremlingen wants to get into the Easter nest with little sugar and lots of cocoa thanks to handmade smile bunnies. Ina Wirth and Sabine Nordmeyer from Lüneburg don't want to hide their huge Easter eggs cast out of clay, but rather serve every individual customer wish thanks to special clay from America and more than 600 different glazes. The competition is fierce - we have to stand out every year with fresh and particularly unusual ideas.
