When the first generation Panamera came onto the market in 2009, this was a bold step for Porsche into the luxury class: with the dimensions of a top saloon, but with the familiar speed and agility of a Porsche. The result did not please everyone; particularly the design of the rear section led to some caustic remarks. Nevertheless, it sold well especially in Asia and the US.
