Mega Brands - Tchibo

n-tv | Mega Brands | 1  ×  40 min | 28.05.2019

End of the Second World War: Coffee was rare - demand for it was high. Coffee supplies were scarce and for a long time there seemed to be no supply in sight. But a resourceful businessman - through his training as a coffee-trader and his good contacts to South America - had access to the precious beans: Max Herz. In 1949, together with his partner Carl Tchiling-Hiryan, he developed an innovative idea that was to lead to real cheers among the war-ravaged population: they shipped the highly coveted roasted coffee by mail. The Tchibo brand was born and the foundation for an entire empire was laid.

Today, Tchibo is one of the largest German consumer goods and retail companies, with over 1000 of its own stores worldwide - and a clear brand positioning. Since the seventies, customers have associated the family business with more than just coffee from all over the world. The current range today includes clothing for children, jewellery for women and socks for men. But the coffee giant is also making a name for itself repeatedly through unusual campaigns: with dream trips to the Caribbean, cheap mobile phone cards or even green electricity. The range is surprising - and yet remains true to its core brand.

In the n-tv format "Mega Brands", in addition to the history, the various products and production techniques, the success story of how the Tchibo brand from Hamburg made it onto the international stage and thus rose to become a mega brand is highlighted. A family business with tradition and a spirit of innovation - and this for almost 70 years.
