Hamburg 1945 - Wie die Stadt gerettet wurde

NDR | Unsere Geschichte | 1  ×  60 min

This documentary re-enactment by the television screenwriter Jobst Thomas looks back at the fateful days that preceded Hamburg’s capitulation on 3 May 1945 and uses elaborately produced enactments to portray the dramatic events. The story centres on three courageous and determined men, who were instrumental in bringing about an end to the war without bloodshed, putting their own lives at risk in doing so. In the history books, however, they only appear as marginal figures, if at all.

Hamburg 1945 – Wie die Stadt gerettet wurde tells the story behind the story.

(Cast: Götz Burger as Albert Schäfer, Marion Elskis as Elisabeth Schäfer, Nico König as
Prof. Dr. Hermann Burchard, Eric Bouwer as Thomas Martin Lindsay, Michael Lott as Dispatch Rider)
