Mega Brands - Leica

n-tv | Mega Brands | 1  ×  42 min

Leica Kamera AG opened its new company headquarters in Wetzlar, in Central Hesse, to mark the 100th anniversary of the original Leica, the first 35 mm camera ever. With this, the world-renowned camera manufacturer is coming full circle, because it was here that the invention of Oskar Barnack, who built the first Leica in 1914 as the head of the experimental workshop, launched its global career. The most famous photographers of the 20th century worked with it, raising those five letters to the realm of art.

Leica is also the blossoming and brief fading of a German company. Just ten years ago, the traditional brand was on the brink of ruin. Then Andreas Kaufmann came along, an heir to millions from Salzburg, and let himself in for the adventure of keeping alive the cult brand that had been declared clinically dead.
