Gunter Sachs - Der Lebenskünstler
Arte | 1 × 42 min
He was considered the last great playboy – a man who loved women, and who was loved by women. He was a man who just had to be happy, because he had everything. Yet on 6 May 2011 a shot fell in his chalet in Gstaad. Gunter Sachs had ended his own life.
Over the past 20 years, the journalist Hanns-Bruno Kammertöns met the artist and industrialist heir Gunter Sachs on many occasions; they trusted each other. The journalist was deeply shaken by his companion’s suicide. What did people not know about Gunter Sachs? What did he keep to himself?
Two years after Sachs ended his life, the author sets out in search of clues. He talks to the widow Mirja Sachs, the sons Rolf, Gunnar and Halifax Sachs in St. Tropez, St. Moritz, Zürich and Munich. Close friends relate their colourful experiences with Sachs and speak about their grief. The dialogues focus on the depths and the limits of human existence. They bring to light the “human being” Gunter Sachs beyond the cliché of the “playboy”. A posthumous image of the man emerges, which is more multifaceted than previously depicted in the media. Gunter Sachs, a man full of esprit – but also full of melancholia.
